IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl W.
Martin
June 7, 1936 – October 5, 2025
Carl W. Martin , age 89, of Lititz, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025. He was the loving husband of the late Phyllis Martin.
Born on June 7, 1936, in Elizabethtown, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob Z. and Mary E. (Wolgemuth) Martin. Carl was a graduate of Messiah Academy, Class of 1955, and was employed by Yellow Freight for 35 years.
He was a faithful and active member of the Lititz Church of the Brethren for over 60 years. Among his many volunteer roles, he took great pride in being responsible for locking up the church each night—a duty he faithfully performed for the past 50 years. He also enjoyed singing in the church choir.
Carl served on the Lititz Springs Park Board for many years. He lovingly recreated the crown, the swans, and the Ferris wheel from the original designs—iconic features that continue to be enjoyed during the town’s annual Fourth of July celebration.
One of Carl’s greatest joys was being a member of the Moravian Manor wood shop, where he found both purpose and friendship among fellow crafters. He especially loved working with his hands, and his woodworking talents were well known. His specialties included making lamps, Christmas trees, stools and benches, picture frames, stars, rolling pins, tables, and—most recently—snowflakes.
Carl and Phyllis shared a love of travel and adventure. Together, they enjoyed a cruise to Alaska, annual trips to NOAC (National Older Adult Conference), and many cherished camping trips in their camper.
Carl is survived by children: Vicky Hill (Derrick), Mark Tobias, Susan Manno (Mark), Sherry Lewis (Rob), and Michael Tobias (Deb); and by his grandchildren: Jasmine Tobias, Alan Tobias, Payton Orta (Jacee), Cole Lewis, Madison Weit, Samuel Tobias, Colin Lewis, and Javon Hill.
He is also survived by his former wife Ruth Martin, with whom he shared Sherry, two sisters—Verna Mae Bert and Mary Miller—and a brother, LeRoy Martin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Phyllis Martin, who passed away in 2024, his parents, and a sister–Francis Allwine.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Moravian Manor and Masonic Village Hospice. Their compassion and care were a blessing to Carl and to all of us during these last few months.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Lititz Church of the Brethren , 300 W. Orange St., Lititz, PA. There will be no viewing, but all are welcome to a time of gathering, reflection, and reminiscing immediately following the service from 3:00–5:00 PM .
We love and miss you, Dad. You were such an inspiration to us and to so many others. We will forever hold you in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Carl’s name to Masonic Village Hospice, 98 Masonic Drive, Suite 101, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, https://https://masonicvillagehospice.org/donate/ , or Moravian Manor Benevolence Fund, 300 West Lemon Street, Lititz, PA 17543.
