It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carl Douglas Schaefer, who departed this life on December 25, 2024. Born on July 23, 1946, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Carl lived a rich and accomplished life, leaving a lasting imprint on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Carl's early years were spent in Lancaster, where he graduated from McCaskey High School, embarking on a lifelong journey of education and self-improvement. His aspirations led him to Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, where he earned a master's degree while also serving in the Army National Guard. This is a testament to his commitment to his country that he loved very much
His professional journey commenced at Gilbert's in the nuclear power industry, a role that carried him to Yugoslavia, expanding his horizons and broadening his expertise. Upon returning to the United States, Carl's career flourished. He took up roles in both Texas and Illinois, thanks to his ambition, before making his way back to his beloved hometown of Lancaster. For several years, he dedicated his efforts to Delmarva Power, contributing significantly to industry advancements.
Later, Carl joined Black and Veetch, a position that ushered him across the globe to locations as diverse as Chile, South Africa, Afghanistan, and Jordan. His contributions made him a pivotal figure in every venture he undertook.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Carl's personal life was richly adorned with love and family. His marriage to Nanci Cooch Schaefer, who predeceased him, was a chapter filled with travel and partnership. Together, they shared the joy of spending time with family. Carl is survived by his only daughter, Amber Fasig, and her husband, Adam Frederick. his granddaughter, Kyleigh Fasig, who was truly the light of his life, his sister Jeanne Kennedy along with many nieces and nephews.
Carl's passions were as distinctive as the life he led. A loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, he enjoyed watching them play, whether on TV or traveling to Dallas itself. His love for golfing brought him serenity and challenge, but nothing surpassed the joy of spending precious moments with Kyleigh, his cherished granddaughter.
In remembering Carl Douglas Schaefer, we honor a man whose ambition and life work touched many. His legacy is one of dedication, and an adventurous spirit that remains etched in the hearts of his family and friends. May his memory continue to inspire those who loved him and carry forth his spirit of determination and joy.
