Obituary

**Obituary for Carole Joyce Watkins**

Carole Joyce Watkins,  Schalkewitz, born on September 13, 1941, in Decatur, Illinois, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital peacefully on April 9, 2025, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. With her son Richard "Whitley" Turner and friends Dona & Tracey Daub by her side. Along with the amazing nurses and doctors that cared for her.  She was surrounded by love and warmth, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and laughter that will forever resonate with those she touched.

Carole was the beloved daughter of Carl Schalkewitz, who preceded her in death in July 2000, and Dorothy Schalkewitz, who passed away in October 1986. She cherished the memory of her late brother, Richard Schalkewitz, who departed this world in April 2017.

Above all, Carole was a devoted wife to Garth Douglas Watkins, with whom she shared thirty  years of marriage. A proud mother, Carole is survived by her six children: Richard Turner, Anna Watkins, Craig Watkins, Belinda Watkins Jett, Joey Watkins, and Diana Watkins Lawrence. Her heart was also filled with love for her grandchildren: Michael Turner, Lee Jett, Ian Jett, Sarah Watkins Robinson, Joshua Watkins, Chasity Lawrence Fay, Justin Lawrence, Keagen Watkins, and Alexis Watkins. She held dear the memory of her son, David Joseph Turner, who lived only a brief month. She is also survived by her nephew, Rikk Schalkewitz, and niece, Debbie Schalkewitz Petro, who will remember her fondly.

Carole had a fulfilling career, working for Johnson & Johnson in Chicago, Illinois, and later at Sirloin Stockade in Murray, Kentucky. Her many accomplishments included serving as a den mother for the Cub Scouts, playing the role of Mrs. Claus for Amvets and Veterans, and bringing joy to many as a Bingo Caller. Carole had a unique ability to bring smiles to others, she always had a joke ready, no matter where she was.

Known for her energetic spirit, Carole was kind, generous, and fiercely loyal. Her curious nature invited conversations, and her honesty earned her the respect of those around her. She delighted in saving pennies with her treasured coupons, a testament to her resourceful and thoughtful character. In her spare time, Carole enjoyed playing POGO online, engaging in friendly competitions of Scrabble, and exploring the thrill of the casino and riverboats in Metropolis, Illinois. Each of these interests underscored her vivacious personality and zest for life.

Carole Joyce Watkins will be profoundly missed by her family and friends. Her legacy of joy, humor, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. In honor of her spirit, let us remember to share a laugh and spread kindness in our everyday lives.
