Claudette M.M. Wood

Claudette Marie May Gagnon Wood went to be with the Lord at her home in Mount Joy, Pa. Born in Eagle Lake, Maine on September 27, 1948, Claudette was 77 years old when she succumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease.

She graduated from Fort Kent Community High School in 1966 and from the University of Maine in Fort Kent in 1970. She married Roger Wood in 1969, sharing 56 years or marriage.

Claudette taught in Madawaska, Maine, Pensacola, Florida, Geigertown, Pa, and in Westminster, Md. She was a librarian who taught French, math, and Special Education. She and Roger retired to Mount Joy, Pa. in 2016.

Claudette was known for her diligence, her congeniality, and her faith in God. One can sum up her nature by quoting those who knew her well: “She is the sweetest person I have ever known. “If someone has a problem with Claudette, that person was the problem. She brought an element of class to this world.”

Claudette enjoyed gardening especially caring for flowers, teaching speech and watching her students perform. She was bi-lingual and enjoyed teaching French. She was right at home as a librarian; one could see students sitting at her feet while she read The Velveteen Rabbit to them.

Claudette and her husband started a Bible study while living in Maine. This study grew to be The Madawaska Bible Church, a thriving church today.

In addition to her husband, Roger, she is survived by three children: Jennifer Green, Dyna, and Jeremy Wood; two grandchildren, Ben and Piper Green; sisters Rinette, Marie, Claire; two brothers Emile Jr. and Reno; as well as many nieces and nephews and their children. Preceding her in death were her parents Emile and Lorrine Gagnon and sister Patsy.
