David Anthony Sheaffer

David Anthony Sheaffer, 75, passed away peacefully in his New Oxford home on Monday June 1st, 2026 after a prolonged illness. He maintained his optimism, kindness, curiosity, and sense of humor until his last day. 

David was born on November 30th, 1950 in Hanover, Pennsylvania to Robert and Agnes (Bunty) Sheaffer. He was the youngest child of a large family, where his love of and gift for music was nurtured through piano lessons from his classically trained mother. He is a graduate of Delone Catholic High School and Shippensburg University where he studied English Literature. David’s passion was music, playing keyboards for numerous bands both here at home and touring throughout the country in the 1970s. Music brought him to Minneapolis where he sold pianos, recorded music, and his two children were born. David returned to McSherrystown and spent much of his fatherhood as a single parent, sharing his vast knowledge of music, literature, trivia, and joyful sense of humor with his devoted sons. 

David is survived by his sons, Luke and Paul, and his brothers Patrick and Christopher. He is preceded in death by his father Robert, mother Agnes, siblings Constance, Robert, Bill, Mike, and former wife and mother of his children Charlene Markle. 

A Mass and celebration of David's life will be held on Friday, June 19th, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Carlisle St, New Oxford, PA 17350. Visitation will begin at 10AM, followed by the service at 11AM, with Father Keith Carroll officiating. A luncheon will follow at New Oxford Social Club, 200 W Golden Ln, New Oxford, PA 17350. 

Contributions in David's memory may be made to the State Street Academy of Music in Harrisburg, which provides music lessons to young people, or to Save The Music. Flowers are also welcome.
