Obituary

David Herold Wenthe died on September 5, 2023 in Lancaster, PA, surrounded by family.  He was born in Kansas City, MO, on February 27,1935 and was adopted at birth by Albert William and Mary Virginia (Herold) Wenthe.  Upon the untimely death of his mother, his father married Virginia Lee (Gregg) and together they raised Dave and his three siblings in St. Louis, Missouri.  He attended St. Louis Country Day and Washington and Lee University and graduated from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy.  He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers, then joined Caterpillar Tractor Company as a field representative.  After moving around the country, his family settled in central Pennsylvania, where he spent most of his career with Cleveland Bros. Equipment Company.  In later years, he worked as a realtor in the area.

Dave dearly loved his family.  He also enjoyed sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and spending time on or near the water, particularly in Florida and on the Chesapeake Bay. Sailing always brought him great joy. Dave enjoyed attending concerts and sporting events, especially soccer and lacrosse, where those he loved were participating. He was an active member of  St. Peter Lutheran Church, serving in various ministries and assisting with Sunday services. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruth Scannell, and his brother William Wenthe. He leaves behind his sister, Carol Palmer, his daughters Anne (Daniel) Wolf, Susan (Axel) Linde & Julie (Don) Korenkiewicz, and stepchildren Julia Hainly (Andrew) Williams and Joseph (Jessica) Hainly.  He will also be missed by his grandchildren - Sarah (Nick) Linde Palka, Elizabeth (Nate) Linde Alter, Ben Wolf, Rachel Wolf, Stephen (Hannah) Linde, Rebekah (Joel) Linde Johnson, Kate Wolf, Michael Korenkiewicz, Bethlehem Linde, Alyssa Korenkiewicz, and Anna Linde, as well as six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
