Edward Francis Bergen, Jr., 85, of York, passed away on June 27, 2026. Born in Philadelphia in 1941, he was the son of the late Edward F. and Mabel (Goodman) Bergen and the husband of Michelle (nee Danoski) with whom he shared 25 years of marriage (and together with her for 30 years).
Ed was a 1958 graduate of Northeast Catholic School, Philadelphia, and attended Penn State University where he studied various courses. Ed enlisted in the Air Force 1958 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1960.
He worked for Western Union and various communications jobs between 1960 and 1978 before working for State of Florida’s Department of Children and Families in West Palm Beach Florida. He retired in January of 2006.
Outside of work, Ed loved watching Women’s College basketball (in particular, UConn) and Duke University’s Men’s College basketball as well as Villanova University’s teams. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan, as well.
Ed was a proud, lifelong Democrat and loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved supporting them in the sports they played and was so proud of all of them. He also loved animals – especially his “fur babies,” Stella Luna, Jasmine, and Ziggy Stardust. He missed Ginger, Belle, and Bixby who crossed over to Rainbow Bridge.
In addition to his wife, Michelle, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Erin Szalczyk (Mark Szalczyk) of Landisville, PA; his sons, Michael Bergen (partner Alexis Simonetti) of Hobe Sound, FL, Brian Bergen (wife Brenda Bergen) of Stuart, FL, Shawn Bergen (wife Mary Bergen) of Hobe Sound, FL; his grandchildren, Cassidy Bergen, of Austin, TX, Caris Bergen of Hobe Sound, FL, Caleb Bergen of Hobe Sound, FL, Brandi Costa (husband Brian Costa) Port St. Lucie, FL, grandson Andrew Anderson (wife Janelle) of Rogersville, AL, Keeghan Szalczyk, of Landisville, PA, Kyleigh Szalczyk, of Landisville, PA; his five great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
As per his wishes, there will be no services.
