It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest L. Gray III. Ernie passed away at his home on March 22, 2025, surrounded by his two children.  He was the son of the late Dorothy Grafton and Ernest Gray II.

Ernie was born and raised in Philipsburg PA and later moved to Lancaster PA to be closer to his children.

Ernie worked as a self-employed contractor for nearly half of a century.  When he wasn't working, Ernie loved to sit on his patio with a cup of coffee and read the newspaper from front to back.  He had a love of art, antiques and people. Ernie was very generous with his time, as his favorite past time included talks with family, friends, neighbors, or even a stranger passing by. He knew what seemed like everyone.  He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Ernie is survived by a daughter Angel Gray (Greta Fairbanks) of Lancaster, a son Scott Gray (Traci Natale) of Lancaster, 4 grandchildren, Tyler Gray, Isabel, Paige and Julia Fairbanks, 4 sisters, Gloria Pewanick, Barb Shaw (Bruce), Debbie Ogden (Mike), Kathy Bennett, 5 brothers, Robert Grafton, Thomas Gray, Timothy Gray, John Gray and Bryan Bennett.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to friends and neighbors who provided him with kindness and generosity. Ernie leaves a legacy of love, resilience and friendship and will be deeply missed.

At his request, a private memorial will be held for family at a later date.
