John S. "Sam" Smith, 82, of Lancaster, died peacefully on January 3, 2024.

His life began in Reading on November 9, 1941. He was the son of Samuel and Juliana (Zeigler) Smith.

Sam was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan and loved watching college football. He was a lifetime member of Riverside and Active Clubs.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Sam is survived by his children, Cheri (Smith) Gilbert and partner Chuck of East Earl, PA; Jeff Sheaffer and wife Linda, of Great Mills, MD.; Roxanne (Waltman) Brandt and husband Keith, and John S. Smith, Jr., and wife Lesly all of Lancaster, PA.

Sam also leaves behind his siblings, Jim Botzer and wife Miriam of Ashland City, TN; Donald Smith and wife Mable of New Providence, PA; Donna Rhine and husband Bill of Kirkwood, PA; Philip Mair of Dallas, PA; Debbie Brusch and husband Tom of Lancaster, PA; Brenda Candioto and husband Ron of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Rennie Hallacher and husband Don of Maytown, PA.

Also left behind are six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
