In Loving Memory of Maria Skabo
With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Maria Skabo, who peacefully departed this life on July 14th, 2026.
Born on July 8, 1944, in Budapest Hungary, Maria was the cherished daughter of John and Maria Lestyan. Maria lived a life filled with love, strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family.
She was the heart of her home and a source of comfort, wisdom, and encouragement to everyone who knew her. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and generous heart left a lasting impression on all whose lives she touched.
Maria was a talented interior designer with an extraordinary eye for beauty and creativity. She loved decorating and had a remarkable gift for transforming any space into a warm and welcoming home. She was also incredibly skilled at working with her hands, often reupholstering furniture and creating beautiful handcrafted pieces of art. An amazing gardener, she found great joy in nurturing flowers and plants, creating vibrant gardens that reflected her patience, care, and appreciation for the beauty of nature. Her creativity, imagination, and attention to detail were evident in everything she touched, leaving behind treasured creations and cherished memories that will continue to inspire those who loved her.
She found great joy in spending time with her family, celebrating life's milestones, and creating cherished memories with her children, grandchildren, and loved ones. Whether through her caring words, delicious home-cooked meals, or quiet acts of generosity, she made everyone feel welcome, valued, and deeply loved.
Maria will be remembered not only for what she did, but for who she was—a woman of resilience, compassion, and faith in the universe. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the traditions she passed down, and the unconditional love she shared so freely.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John J. Skabo, who passed away in 2020; her parents, John and Maria Lestyan; and her beloved sisters, Valeria Duda and Aniko Lestyan. After years of sharing a life built on love, family, and devotion, we find comfort in knowing she has been reunited with those she loved, together in eternal peace.
Maria is survived by her children, Erica Hannan, Christopher (Jodi) Skabo, and Heidi (Lee) Maddocks; her grandchildren, Justine (Chris) Chan Chow, Lizzy Hannan, Jillian (Cody)Leutner, Cole Skabo, Cameron Skabo, William Maddocks, Sebastian Maddocks, Christian Maddocks and Lissi Maddocks; her great-grandchildren, Anika Chan Chow, Blake Chan Chow, and Sienna Leutner; her beloved siblings, Csilla Lestyan, Virginia Patterson, Suzanne Carroll, Stephen Lestyan, Kathleen Tourdot, Elizabeth LaSala, John Lestyan, Peter Lestyan, and Joseph Lestyan; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
