Joan Gridley loving wife and mother died peacefully on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Hospice of Lancaster County, PA. She formerly lived in Media and West Chester, PA. Joan was born Mary Joan Bloom in 1929 in Rochester, PA to parents Hilmer and Helen Bloom of Beaver, PA. After graduating from Beaver High School, she worked in Pittsburgh, PA in retail sales. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Charles Gridley in 1950 and soon started a family. She was predeceased by her brother Skip Bloom and later by her husband Richard after 36 years of marriage. Joan is survived by her sister, Jean Smith, and brother, Jonathan Bloom, 2 children: Candace Buckbee (married to Cheever Buckbee, deceased) and David Gridley (married to Ella Gridley) and 5 grandchildren: Jonathan Buckbee (married to Elizabeth Motley), Keith Buckbee (married to Jennifer Lantz) and Nicole Buckbee (married to Robert Stengle), Andrew Gridley and Danielle Gridley (married to Greg Mullins) and 9 great grandchildren: Davis, Jack, Will, Hannah, Sarah, Abigail, Catherine, Caleb, Charlotte Buckbee. She was formerly member of Lima Methodist Church, and later attended Christ Community Church, East Goshen. Her faith in God guided her through life. Joan was an avid bridge player and reader. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and created beautiful Christmas wreaths working at Linvilla Orchards. She loved animals especially cats. "Bruce" the most popular cat at The Long Community at Highland, brought smiles to the residents as he rode down the hallways on her walker. A private grave side service will be at the family's convenience.
