Obituary

Michael Kowalik , son of Joseph and Clementine Kowalik, was a proud graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School (1966), Shippensburg State College (1970), and earned his M.Ed. in 1977. He taught English in the Red Lion Area School District for 36 years, including nine years at the junior high, one year in Canada, and 26 years at the senior high. He was honored to receive a J.W. Fulbright Scholarship to teach internationally.

A dedicated member of St. John’s UCC in Red Lion for 50 years, he served faithfully as an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and youth fellowship advisor. He also coached junior high basketball and track and served as Student Council advisor. His service extended to mission trips to Biloxi, Mississippi; volunteering at the Community Reach food bank in Red Lion; and serving as a board member of Hoffman Homes for Youth for 15 years.

He cherished time with family and friends and enjoyed golfing with his Monday group, surf fishing, and annual family vacations to the Outer Banks. He was married for 50 years to his beloved wife, Winifred, and is survived by their three children—Erin, Gretchen, and Sean—daughter-in-law Katie, and two grandchildren, Cole and Brody. He loved traveling with Winifred and family, and the two first met while on a graduate course tour in London, England. He is also survived by his brother, John Kowalik.

Memorial Service to be determined at a later date. Contributions may be made to Hoffman Homes for Youth, Littlestown, PA, or Community Reach Food Bank, Red Lion, PA.
