Peter Edward Osman

Peter Edward Osman was born in Boston, MA on March 15, 1952. He grew up in Dover, NH and graduated from New England College in 1974. He moved to New York City in the 1980’s to pursue his work as a painter and sculptor. He graduated from Columbia University with a master’s in special education, and in 2000 moved to Maine.

He taught for many years in Southern Maine as well as continuing to create abstract paintings and whimsical dog sculptures. In 2017 he moved to Cortez, FL and took up photography, spending many hours photographing the magnificent birds and the Gulf Coast sunsets. In 2025, he moved to Sinking Spring, PA, where he continued to photograph the rolling hills and sparkling creeks in the area.

He was a friend of Bill W for many years. His kindness, generosity, and humor made him many friends over the years. His love of dogs was legendary, and his creativity endless. He is survived by his brother David and sister in law Fredda, his beloved son Matthew, and his longtime partner Holly Newstein Hautala.

Peter was an original character, a bright and talented artist, a patient and caring teacher, and a loving father. He will be much missed by many. May his memory be a blessing to all who remember and celebrate him.
