Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" W. Allison, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and dedicated community member. He left this world on January 13, 2025, at the age of 87, in Coatesville, PA. Born on April 23, 1937, in West Chester, PA, Bob lived a life rich in service, love, and community spirit.

Bob's life was a testament to the power of kindness, generosity, and humility. He graduated from the West Chester School District and spent his life in a series of roles that defined his ethos of service. Starting as a milk delivery man, he later took pride in working for the West Chester Laundry, before retiring from CALECO. Not one to rest on his laurels, he found fulfillment in later years working at ScoMed Medical Supplies, of which he loved working for.  In addition, he professionally mowed lawns with his daughter until he was 86.

A lifelong volunteer firefighter, Bob served the West Bradford Volunteer Fire Company and the First West Chester Volunteer Fire Company from the age of 17. His dedication earned him numerous roles, including Assistant Fire Chief (West Bradford FH). He created and organized the West Bradford Fire Co classic car show, to benefit the fire co.  He helped organize W. Bradford Fire Co. participation in the highly regarded Marshalton Triathlon, which benefits went to the fire companies operations. Helped organize the 1976 Bicentennial Parade, a highlight in West Chester's history.  His heroic act in 2009, where he selflessly rescued an unresponsive driver from a burning vehicle, highlights his bravery and commitment to others.

Bob's passion for antique and classic cars was well-known. In addition he enjoyed camping, woodworking, and recounting Chester County's rich history. His membership in the Chester County Antique Car Club allowed him to share his enthusiasm with others. His classic car, a source of pride, won numerous accolades, a testament to his dedication and love for vintage automobiles.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Isla Mae Allison; his children, Glenn (Lisa), Donna Chiccino (Dave), and Ron (Barbara); and his grandchildren, Bryon, Johnathan, Matt, Brittany and 4 great grandchildren, 4 sisters (Betty, Linda, Kathy, June),. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Mildred, and sister, Mildred.  Bob's legacy of warmth and the impromptu humorous quips that endeared him to so many will be cherished forever.

Bob Allison's life was a testament to his unconditional willingness to lend a hand, whether on a house project or a mechanical problem. Bob lived as he served: with humility, hard work and boundless love for his family and community.  His memory remains etched in the hearts of those he touched, and his contributions will continue to inspire.

A ceremony to honor Bob's life and contributions will be held at the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company, located at 3611 E. Lincoln Hwy., Thorndale, PA, on February 22, 2025. Friends and family are welcomed from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a service at 1:00 p.m. and time, afterwards, to come together over lunch and beverages…..just like Bob would have loved!

In a manner fitting Bob's enduring generosity and community spirit, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Bradford Fire Company, 1305 W. Strasburg Rd. West Chester PA 19382 or the First West Chester Fire Company, West Chester PA  19382 or a local volunteer fire company of your choice.
