IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Timothy B.
Mabrey
January 15, 1980 – September 15, 2024
Timothy Burdette Mabrey, 44, of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, passed away tragically while swimming off the coast of Long Beach Island, NJ on September 15, 2024. This loss leaves family and friends shocked and deeply saddened.
Tim was born on January 15, 1980 to Katherine E. Burdette and Gerald Mabrey. Tim spent most of his life at his family home on Beaver Hill Road in Chester Springs, PA, a place that brought him great joy into adulthood.
Tim loved teaching and learning, graduating from Owen J. Roberts High School and Ursinus College in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Minor in Studio Art. Tim went on to earn his Masters of Arts in Counseling/School Psychology from Immaculata University in 2010. Intellectually curious, Tim loved learning about the human mind and the ways humans make meaning. He dedicated his life to his work as a counselor (LPC, NCC), first working as mobile therapist for children and adolescents, then an outpatient therapist for adults. He most recently worked at Sanare Today as a Program Supervisor and IOP therapist. Tim's greatest joy was in helping others. He was kind, thoughtful and non-judgmental and he took great pride in mentoring new therapists. Tim often spoke with enthusiasm after a good IOP group session or the successes of his clients.
Tim had a booming, infectious laugh and easily befriended those who were lucky enough to meet him. He loved to ask questions and was an attentive listener and wise advisor. Tim's childhood travels to Asia had a lifelong impact on him as he became dedicated practitioner of Tai Kwon Do, achieving a Third Degree Black Belt in 2011 and going on to teach both children and adults in the community. His athleticism extended to a love of lifting weights and becoming a dedicated practitioner of yoga - rarely missing his Saturday morning class at Nectar in Phoenixville. Tim also loved animals, leaving behind his beloved cats Mara aka "Sheik" and Solomon and many chickens that he raised by hand. Tim enjoyed spending his remaining time with family and friends playing D&D, go-karting, video games, taking walks, and watching movies.
Tim was preceded in death by his father Gerald Mabrey, grandparents Anna and William Burdette, childhood dog Nobska and cat, Katanna. Tim is survived by his mother, Katherine Burdette, and girlfriend, Christina Congdon, as well as many lifelong friends and clients, all of whose lives he made better, just from being in them.
Tim was a spiritual man who believed in God, humility, and the power of love and faith. His mother trusts that Tim has rejoined his creator and has been reunited with his grandparents and father. A celebration of Tim's life will be held in Chester County at a later date. We welcome those who knew him to honor Tim by showing love everyday and continuing to live their lives to the fullest. He is deeply missed.
