Obituary

William "Bill" Edward OBrien, 78, of Lancaster, PA, also known as "2$ Bill" because of his habit of using two-dollar bills, went home to see his Lord and Savior on July 5, 2024.  He was born to the late Matthew and Jane (Bowyer) O'Brien on June 25, 1946, in Chicago, IL, predeceased by his brother Kenneth and sister Noreen.

He grew up near the stockyards of Chicago and graduated from Chicago Vocational High School.  In 1966, Bill was drafted into the United States Army.  Following his honorable discharge in 1969, Bill pursued studies at Tolentine College.  Upon graduation in 1973, Bill began working for the United States Postal Service and later had a 39-year career as a Social Worker at the Illinois Office of Public Aid, retiring in 2013.

Bill was a lifelong learner earning degrees from Loyola University, Wilbur Wright College, Triton College, and Moody Bible Institute.  He also had a passion for travel, having visited friends across the US and made international trips to Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Russia, and Thailand.

Bill was most passionate about his faith in Jesus Christ.  He was a member of Grace Community Church in Willow Street, PA, but, during his lifetime, supported various churches, including several church plants, pastors, and missionaries.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Grace Community Church in Willow Street, PA (212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street, PA 17584) on July 27 at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon.
